NEWS FROM PCA

DAVE CORMIER has been very busy and successful on the racing circuit.
After taking a much needed break after the 2009 season the VI Fitness team met to decide the course of action for the 2010 season. It was determined they would defend their NORPAC and SCCA Regional titles as well as try and make it to the Molson Indy in Edmonton and the Children's Charity race in Mission, BC. The team would also like to qualify and make it to the SCCA runoffs at Road America which they were unable to attend last year. The year would start as it did last year at the Double Nationals in Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California in March.
Thunderhill Raceway in Willows Ca., March 20th & 21st 2010: Two wins and a track record: a great start to the season!
He returned from Portland last week where his team won the third round of the Norpac Division in GT2 and won the SPO class regionally as well. May long weekend they'll be in Seattle for rounds 4 and 5 of the championship.
A full report of Dave's activities are on the VI Fitness website.

Congratulations and a big THANK YOU! to Dimitri Maekawa, winner of our New Logo contest!

Derek Nickel is our Enthusiast of the Year for 2009. Derek was an integral part of our "Crown Isle 2009" committee and attended virtually every meeting held during the six months leading up to this Mother's Day weekend event. He brought with him to our meetings great enthusiasm, a love for the cars, and a willingness to offer ideas and volunteer wherever necessary to help make our club's premier event a success. As well, Derek participated in numerous Sunday Drives and other club events throughout the year. Derek goes to school (VIU in Nanaimo) full-time, holds down a regular job, and commutes back and forth quite often to his parents' home in Campbell River. Clearly he has a very full dance card - not to mention the time he spends with his long-time girlfriend, Meredith, another budding Porsche enthusiast. Derek's youthful energy and passion for our cars has been a great inspiration to his fellow club members and serves to remind us of all that is best about being a Porsche owner and, more importantly, a member of VIR-PCA. He is indeed a worthy recipient of our "Enthusiast of the Year" award for 2009.

Insurance Requirements for anyone organizing a Regional event You need to get insurance for every moving car event organized by the Region. Please forward to me the date, time, start and finish locations. Also get the correct names of any persons or company whose property may be involved in the event. If it's a tour, breakfast run, evening drive, autocross, rally or what ever, then provide me a brief description of where the event starts, where it's going and where it finishes.
There is a insurance requirement for all participants to sign a waiver prior to starting the event. Pads of waiver forms are available from the insurance chair. After the event is over the waiver forms must be returned to the insurance chair because they have to be kept for two years in case there is a late claim we don't know about.
The sooner you get the information regarding your event to the insurance chair the better. The policy for the event will be ordered and you will be provided with a copy of the policy. Check with any property owners if they need a copy of the insurance and one will be sent to them. For more information contact Carolyn Hoare
COLLECTOR PLATES:We get inquiries from members regarding collector and antique vehicles. Here is the link to ICBC that explains whether or not your car might qualify: http://www.icbc.com/registration/reg_spec_veh_coll_veh.asp
Several members and friends of VIR meet for coffee early on Sunday mornings. We started at Starbuck's but moved to Francelli's Coffee 4444 West Saanich Road, Victoria, in the Royal Oak Shopping Centre, due to our increasing numbers! This is a good time to make new friends and show off our cars. Come and join us!
